Sugar Kane Music is the umbrella under which Australian music producer, composer, and musician John Kane works.

John’s roots are in bluegrass and acoustic music. He is acknowledged as one of the pioneers of bluegrass flatpicking guitar and mandolin in Australia touring extensively in the eighties with banjo maestro Chris Duffy and performing and recording with artists including Flying Emus, Slim Dusty, Byron Berline, David Bromberg, Vince Gill, Dan Crary, Tony Trischka and many more.

In the early 1990s John turned to working behind the scenes in the studio producing recordings for people like Anne Kirkpatrick, Judith Durham, The Bushwackers, and Ted Egan.  He also began writing for television and composing and producing children’s music for the ABC.

John returned to his musical roots during 2014 with his ARIA and six time Gold Guitar winning band the Flying Emus. To coincide with the Warner release of The Collection: 1984-1990 the band performed to sell out crowds at various festivals and venues around the country before calling it a day at The National Folk Festival Easter 2015.

Recently John has also been writing and producing music for Jay Laga’aia’s television series Jay’s Jungle and Jay’s new ABC Music album Family Time.
